Dal Bhaat Organic Unpolished Moong Dal Chilka (Split with Skin) – 450 g is the wholesome, skin-on split moong — the perfect middle ground between whole sabut moong and the skinless dhuli dal. Retaining its natural green skin gives it an outstanding nutritional profile with 23.58g of protein and an exceptional 16g of dietary fibre (64% DV) per 100g, making it one of the most fibre-rich dals in our entire range.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight container after opening. Keep away from direct sunlight and moisture to preserve freshness.
- Rinse the moong dal chilka 2-3 times. Optionally soak for 30 minutes to speed up cooking.
- Add to a pressure cooker with water in a 1:3 ratio, a pinch of turmeric and salt.
- Pressure cook on medium heat for 6-8 minutes (about 2-3 whistles) until soft and tender.
- Let pressure release naturally, then finish with a tadka of ghee, cumin, garlic and hing.
- Rinse the dal well and add to a pot with water in a 1:3.5 ratio.
- Bring to a boil on high heat, then reduce to a medium simmer.
- Cook uncovered for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and cooked through.
- Add turmeric and salt, mix well, and finish with a generous ghee tadka.
- No soaking is strictly necessary — it’s split, so it cooks faster than whole moong.
- The green skin adds a pleasant earthy bite — don’t overcook to mush, keep some texture.
- Excellent for dosas — soak overnight and grind with rice for a nutritious chilka moong dosa batter.
- A pinch of hing in the tadka greatly improves digestibility and adds authentic flavour.
