Dal Bhaat Organic Unpolished Urad Dal White (Split, Skinless) – 450 g is the smooth, creamy white form of urad dal — husked and split to reveal a pale, silky grain that cooks quickly into a delicate, mild-flavoured dal. Beloved across South Indian cooking for idli, dosa, and vada, and equally at home in North Indian tadka dal, urad dal white is one of the most versatile pulses in any kitchen. Grown on certified organic farms and completely unpolished.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight container after opening. Keep away from direct sunlight and moisture to preserve freshness.
- Rinse the urad dal white and soak for 4-6 hours (for idli/dosa batter, soak overnight and grind).
- Drain and add to a pressure cooker with water in a 1:3 ratio, a pinch of turmeric and salt.
- Pressure cook on medium heat for 10-12 minutes (about 3-4 whistles) until completely soft.
- Let pressure release naturally, mash lightly, then finish with a tadka of ghee, cumin and hing.
- Rinse and soak urad dal white for 4-6 hours, then drain well.
- Add to a pot with water in a 1:3.5 ratio and bring to a boil.
- Reduce to a medium simmer and cook uncovered for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Cook until completely soft and creamy, then season and add your preferred tadka.
- For idli/dosa: soak overnight, grind to a smooth batter with rice, ferment 8-10 hrs before cooking.
- For Medu Vada: grind soaked dal with minimal water to a thick, fluffy batter — add ginger and curry leaves.
- A pinch of hing in the tadka is essential — it beautifully complements the mild urad flavour.
- Pairs wonderfully with coconut chutney and sambar for a complete South Indian breakfast.
